Description: Learn about Army of Angels, their initiatives, and service mindset for our youth in the community. Find out how "the army" of "angels" is meeting the needs and changing the trajectory of our youth and young adults, and how local business and community members can help.
Originally from Illinois, Kate Demory moved to Winter Park in 1999 to attend The University of Central Florida. After graduating from UCF with business, health, and humanities degrees she began working as a Financial Center Manager for Washington Mutual Bank.
Having always wanted to be involved with young people, she began an education career with Orange County Public Schools as a math teacher in 2010. In 2016 she earned her Master's degree in Educational Leadership. Kate holds professional certifications from Florida Department of Education in both math and education leadership/administration and in 2018, Kate became the Academic/Instructional Coach at Winter Park High School and launched the Academic Support Center on campus to support struggling students during the school day.
In 2019 Kate and her husband, Craig Russell, began the 501c3 non-profit organization, Army of Angels, after their experience with helping one of Kate's former students who had become homeless and parentless. Kate and Craig saw the need for additional support with local youth and the hundreds of community members willing to help. Supporting local families and youth during the pandemic became their focus in 2020 and once again the community worked tirelessly to ensure our local families were supported. Army of Angels has also formed partnerships with Central Florida Boys & Girls Club and UCF Cares to extend support and services to the Central Florida area.
Kate Demory and Craig Russell married in 2018 and have a blended family of 5 children, ages 16, 13, 12, 11, and 7, who attend Winter Park High School, Glenridge Middle School and Brookshire Elementary School.
