  • Economic Recovery Task Force Update - 11.04.20

Task Force member Drew Madsen updated the City Commission last week with a detailed, 25-slide PowerPoint presentation. The Commission agreed to two primary proposals presented:

    • Monthly Road Closures Proposal (Nov 2020 – April 2021)
    • Bollard Proposal For Road Closure
Upcoming Monthly Road Closures: The Chamber’s road closure survey offered helpful feedback from more than 350 respondents. The recent road closure increased sales dramatically for shops on Park Avenue, however the blocked roads were a source of confusion to many guests. City and Chamber Communications teams have committed to creating better awareness to amplify impact to businesses and promote future road closures as a dependable package of events.

Upgrading of Bollards at Key Intersections: Updated bollards to replace the wooden barricades currently used would be more attractive, more cost-efficient, sturdier and re-usable, all for a one-time cost of $12,000 - $15,000 per intersection. City staff has identified a system that meets all local and federal guidelines. The proposed investment will be brought to the Commission at their November meeting.

    Activities Update
West Meadow Wednesdays are going well. The November 11 event will feature a tribute honoring military Veterans as well as a Business After Hours networking component.

The October 25th Bach Off The Avenue events were a safe, well-planned and rain-free success. Performances on the West Meadow offered the musicians an opportunity for community interaction and exposure that they had greatly missed since the pandemic began. The Bach Festival Society is considering holding a similar event in December.
