Winter Park Chamber Kicks off #ShopSmall Season

Since its inception in 2010, Small Business Saturday has become a big deal to small businesses. The Winter Park Chamber of Commerce is preparing for the season with a pair of events geared toward educating the community on the importance of shopping locally as well driving foot traffic to local businesses during the holiday season.

“The foundation of our local economy is small businesses,” explained Lou Nimkoff, Chairman of the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. “The Winter Park Chamber of Commerce is proud to be part of the Small Business Saturday Coalition and encourages its members and residents to shop local throughout the year.”

On Friday, November 11, Dr. Sean Snaith, Director, Institute for Economic Competitiveness at UCF, will speak at the popular Good Morning Winter Park series. In his presentation: “Spend Local: It’s Good for the ‘Hood,” Snaith will explain how doing business with local companies helps our economy thrive. Presented by Florida Blue, the program is free to the community and includes a complimentary continental breakfast beginning at 8:00 a.m.

The Shop Small season continues on Thursday, November 17, when the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce and Park Avenue Merchants Association will host the Winter Park Sip, Stroll and #ShopSmall, a special edition of the popular Sip, Shop & Stroll series. The evening will celebrate local businesses in the downtown area with a preview the latest fashions, gift ideas and seasonal menu items leading up to Small Business Saturday (November 26). The event will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. In addition to appetizer and beverage samples, attendees will receive special Shop Small swag and discounts from participating businesses to be used throughout the season.

Sip, Stroll and #ShopSmall will feature 28 local merchants, including, Alex and Ani, Arabella, Cocina 214, Cottonways, Evelyn and Arthur, Eyes + Optics, Forema Boutique, Frank, J. McLaughlin, Jewelers on the Park, Living Morocco, Luma on Park, Olde Town Brokers, Peterbrooke Chocolatier, RE/MAX Town Centre, Scout & Molly’s of Park Avenue, Simmons Jewelers, Small Business Counsel, Synergy Sportswear, The Ancient Olive, The Bistro on Park Avenue, The Grove, The Impeccable Pig, The Spice and Tea Exchange, Through the Looking Glass, Tugboat and the Bird, Umi Japanese Restaurant and Writer’s Block Bookstore. Admission is $25 and includes a wine glass and passport. Reservations are strongly encouraged.
