2016 Winter Park Political Mingle Straw Poll Results

IMG_0754More than 400 Winter Park residents, business owners and community leaders packed the Rachel D. Murrah Civic Center for the 2016 Winter Park Political Mingle on Tuesday, July 19. The event, presented by Bright House Networks and hosted by the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce, gave attendees the opportunity to hobnob with 26 candidates running in many of fall’s hottest races and vote in a straw poll prior to the upcoming primary election.

“Hobnob events are a great way for our members to interact with candidates who will impact their businesses on the local, state and federal levels,” said Lou Nimkoff, Chairman of the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. “We are pleased to have so many candidates participate in our event and demonstrate their commitment to our local small business community.”

The highlight of the evening was the straw poll, which provided insight into key races. Operated by the Orange County Supervisor of Elections office, the poll provided attendees with the opportunity to voice their opinion in 18 different races including president, congressional seats, state and county races, and county and circuit court judgeships, as well as a variety of amendments and local issues.

“Straw poll results are an important tool for candidates throughout the course of their campaigns,” added Nimkoff. “The Winter Park Chamber of Commerce does not endorse candidates, but appreciates the time, energy and support of the candidates in attendance at the event.”

Support for the 2016 Winter Park Political Mingle was provided by Florida’s Finest Linen Service, Orlando Health, The Mayflower Retirement Community, University of Central Florida, Wayne Densch Inc., Winter Park Florist and Winter Park/Maitland Observer.
