Christmas Parade Spreads Holiday Cheer
The Winter Park Chamber of Commerce is proud to host the 63rd Annual Winter Park “Ye Olde Hometown” Christmas Parade presented by Bright House Networks on Saturday, December 5, beginning at 9 a.m. Honorary Grand Marshall David McGuffin, the 2015 Lydia Gardner Citizen of the Year Award recipient, will lead 100 entries south down Park Avenue, from Cole Avenue to Lyman Avenue, spreading holiday cheer to the young and young-at-heart along the way.
“Each year the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce is proud to host this cherished community tradition,” said Patrick Chapin, President/CEO for the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce. “Our old-fashioned parade is just one of the many ways to experience the holidays in Winter Park.”
The Winter Park “Ye Olde Hometown” Christmas Parade has been held on the first Saturday in December for sixty-three years, making to the longest continuously-running holiday parade in Central Florida. Parade participants include bands, dance troupes, police and fire departments, local businesses, elected officials, and, of course, Santa Claus. Representatives from local civic organizations will evaluate each entry and award honors in four categories, including Best Performing Group, Best Band, Best Float and Judges Choice.
Before, during and after the parade, Leadership Winter Park will host its 17th Annual Pancake Breakfast. Presented by Fannie Hillman + Associates and Florida Power & Light, the traditional pancake breakfast is complete with sausage, coffee, juice and array of toppings courtesy of Whole Foods Market. Breakfast is served from 7 – 10:30 a.m. at the Central Park Main Stage. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children. Proceeds from the breakfast will benefit the Winter Park Improvement Foundation, which provides scholarships for adults and youth.
